Orbital MAG: mechanised welding for thick-wall pipes

MAG uses a continuously fed consumable wire electrode and active shielding gas. In an orbital setup the torch follows the pipe circumference mechanically. Unlike orbital TIG, the wire participates directly in the arc and supplies filler metal. Equipment and parameters are not interchangeable between the processes.

Questions before you start.

Can a TIG orbital head be used for MAG?

Do not assume so. The source, torch, wire feed and guidance must be designed for the selected process. A CHW or OHW head listed for TIG must not be chosen for MAG on diameter alone.

How can I have my requirements assessed?

Send drawings or dimensions, materials, location and proposed dates. Tell us whether you need equipment to buy, professionals or an intervention combining equipment and crew.
